Summer Camp 2021 Pledge

I pledge to write 31 articles over the period of Summer Camp, focused on the underdeveloped regions of Estya wherever possible. I will write for at least 30 minutes each day, and take an additional 30 minutes to review, like, and comment on others' articles.

What world are you working on?

I am planning to work on my primary world of Estya, developing areas that have previously gone neglected. Estya is the world in which I hope to write and publish my novel A War of Men and Demons. In the past, large swaths of modern Estya have been ignored in favor of developing the magic system, lore, and history of the Silver Sands and Hell's Breach.

How much are you aiming to complete?

My aim is to complete all 31 prompts this year, however, as this is my first year competing, I would be satisfied with even a Copper badge to show that I tried.

When will you write?

I plan to set aside at least half an hour each day to write articles, and another 30 minutes gathering inspiration and supporting the community by looking at, and commenting on others' articles as well. I plan to do this in the mornings when I can, and in the evening before bed when I cannot.

Who is your support network?

I don't have an official support network, but I'm hoping to bounce ideas and inspiration off of the wonderful people at Seven Tomes and the WorldAnvil discord server. I also hope the Denver Wrimos will be able to help me out, as their summer camp is going on simultaneously.

Updates

July 18

We're past the halfway point and my goal of "Write 30 minutes each day" and "Read/like Articles for 30 minutes each day" has completely fallen to the wayside. I fell so far behind and was really struggling early on, but the completionist and achievement hunter in me is like "This is unacceptable" and just started chugging along. My word count goal for NaNoWriMo is for writing the summer camp articles, and I set a goal of 10,000 words for myself this month. Essentially a WorldEmber in July.

Can you tell when the inspiration struck?

I had the idea to write this update about 20 minutes ago, so I'm going to try and keep up with updates. Maybe not every day, but whenever I feel like I've hit a major milestone.

I really struggled with writing beyond what I already knew about Estya during this time, but both of these article are either

a concept that technically existed in Estya but was never elaborated on beyond a sentence (Blood Decay)
or an entirely new concept that spun off while I was writing the bulk of the article (the dark secret Hell's Breach keeps)

I hope to go back to all of my summer camp articles in August, but especially these two, and do even more development of the concepts that tie into them.

July 20

So it hasn't been long since the last update, but, uh..... this happened:

10 prompts in roughly 7 hours.... dear lord what is wrong with me.

While each article isn't necessarily long, it covers the basics I needed to cover and hit the 300-word threshold for submission. Things went a little off the rails in this grimdark fantasy world as soon as Platil and Nyari got involved, as some of the WA Discord members can attest to. The Bard Guard is now a thing that canonically exists in this world, and I regret nothing.

Things just kind of went apeshit in there.

July 30

The diamond prompt was revealed, and the diamond prompt is done! The single most influential moment in Estyan history, the fracturing of the Disciple Order served as the catalyst that would, over a thousand years later, would lead to the downfall of Estya as a whole.
