World of Aviron

For nearly 20 years, the realm of Aviron has known an uneasy peace. The fires of war still smoldered in the living memory of its people, who bore both scars and stories of the brutal invasion by the forces of Jidar. Through determination and sacrifice, the united armies of the world vanquished the invaders.

In the aftermath, no kingdom had the strength or resources to contemplate further conflict. Children grew up hearing legends of heroes from a bygone era of danger, but peace and prosperity were all they had ever known. Under the watchful eyes of the lords and ladies of the land, folks went about their quiet lives, blissfully untouched by strife.

Yet all knew this hardened peace could not last forever. Dark whispers on the wind spoke of unrest brewing beyond the borders. It seems the forces of shadow have taken note of Aviron's weakened state.

The exiled Queen of Elenia plots her return to the throne, rallying loyalists with promises of past glory. Her warriors have struck the first blow, overrunning the frontier town of Bard's Gate.

To the east, in Regnum Eon, the foul black orcs have emerged from their mountain strongholds to assault the Kingdom of Styx.

The lords can shield the populace no longer - new champions must rise to face new threats beyond their reach. Adventurers of courage and skill are needed now more than ever before. Fortune and renown await those brave enough to stand against the rising tides of war. The realm's era of peace is ending - who will answer Aviron's desperate call?

Thank you so much to all of you, especially my patrons. Our world is a better place with you in it.

The world of Aviron is growing daily. I will send updates as the articles are completed. Also, some information is still not done and have only a few notes from my files. I need to go to my other source information and complete those articles. If there is something you want to see, let me know and I will put the item on the top of my to-do list.

Life in Aviron

11/04/3768

Your life in Aviron, 75-80% of the people are producing food. Farmers, ranchers, fishers, and alike. Most of the rest support the food producers' needs or those who watch over them. Only 2-3% of people have the time and resources to learn and understand the rest of the world.

Nobles: The people in power are the nobles. Chosen by the Goddess Ellina to guide and protect the people. You are grateful for her wisdom to choose. Most rulers are good and decent folk. These are men and women of action. They know about magic, monsters, and worse. They protect your people. They have food stores when your crops are low. They have guards and patrols to protect you and your family. When war came, they fought and died to protect you.

Adventurers: You take up this line of work for various reasons. Whatever the reason, you know that this line of work is deadly. Perhaps, you choose it because the alternative is worse. Maybe you are unlucky enough to have seen a monster, which gave you a cause to seek adventure. Maybe you had the great fortune to have known a wizard, warrior, or cleric and wanted to be like them. Maybe you want to win the heart of the one you love or gain acceptance and respect. Maybe you want to get away from your troubles. You might be one of the very few who want to do it to save the people around you from what is out there.

The Adventurer's Guilds (AG) is generally the only place to get equipment unavailable to the general public. Things like Lock picks, and other tools and kits won't be available in regular stores because of their rarity of sale.

Who are the people of the Aviron?

    Food Producers

    Food Producers

As a food producer (Farmer, Rancher, Fisher), your life is hard work. You spend most of your life working. You only go into a nearby village or city to sell your crops, buy seeds, and get supplies and tools. This will be enough to last the next few months. You will also pick up the latest news. You might see a farmer in town three times a year, depending on the distance from the settlement.

You find happiness in the hope that your time on this world will improve your lot in life and your soul will, one day, find its way to "The Light." You know that you move closer to paradise for your soul with each rebirth. Your family might have a few luxuries, a few books, a weapon or two, or even a sturdy wagon.

As a food producer, you are not very educated and have only basic math skills. You can read a little. You rely on the honesty and integrity of those you meet. This is how you measure people. You will marry a child of your neighbors, and arranged marriages are the norm.

Because you are typically far from town, you rely on yourself and those few that are close by. When emergencies happen, time is usually an issue, and no one can arrive in time to help. On occasion, a passing druid may bless your land and livestock. You pay homage to the Goddess Allyra for good harvests. You pay tribute to Scyndar for watching over your family. Finally, in the end, you pray to Andor, so the soul of a departed loved one can go unimpeded to face the judgment of Ahk.

You rarely, if ever, have seen or even heard of magic except in stories, songs, or rumors.

You know of other races, and you most likely have seen a few. Common are humans, Goblins, Green Orcs, and Dwarves. Rarer are Elves, Jotnar, and Va-Kesh. While Gnomes, Centaurs, Halflings, Serpentines, Nape, and Black Orcs are very rare. The Cimmerian Elves are a myth.

Monsters and Undead are rare. Even if one farmer is killed or worse, there are 20,000 that were not. So, it is only a story for most, and only a few will know the horror. Your self-sufficiency will get you through, or so you believe.

Background: You are confident being on your farm or ranch. Your life is hard work and you know what it takes to do it and do it well. You are able to survive in the wilderness. You know the plants and animals around you and what to avoid. You have only the social skills of your family and a few neighbors. Your guardians arranged your marriage at the age of 7, during a planting festival. Your marriage occurred in the spring after you and your betrothed became adults, at 15.

    Villagers

    Villagers

As a Villager, you are different than most people. You are raised around honest folk. Your life is to serve the farmers and ranchers around your village or town. The commerce of your heart is the stories people bring you from other villages and towns.

You are only a little more educated than the food producers. You can read and write, but do not use grammar or sentence structure. You cannot understand complex or legal documents. However, your math is fair, knowing how to do simple multiplication and division.

You pray to Scyndar and Andor as needed and to whatever God might be local. The Church of Light is good at providing a place to pray to any god you might need. A priest, non-spell casting member of the clergy, will provide wisdom, take offerings, and help with whatever wisdom they have to offer. Arranged marriages are the norm.

You will see an occasional noble in town, and you can fake your way through the pleasantries and etiquette with nobility if you need to. You may even have an adventurer or two.

You know magic exists. You may have seen a spell or two. If you are fortunate, you have a local caster. Magic is remarkable and treated like an rare commodity the village will protect. Most will be a hermit for one of two reasons. First, when bad things happen, they get blamed. Second, when someone needs something, they are the first one people run to. Either is very tiring, to say the least. Most will revere them and many will seek their guidance for even the simple things.

Seeing Monsters or Undead is exceedingly rare. You may have seen the aftermath of these stories. , and the villagers will keep that story alive and pass them along. You live in the village for mutual protection. You know that travel in unprotected areas is hazardous.

Trinket magic items are typical for the Gentry. While a commoner could have one, it is rare. The Gentry rarely has more than an uncommon magic item or two.

Background: You are self-reliant and physically work hard. You know the basics of surviving in the wild. You know some essential plants and animals. You have few social skills and some basic etiquette. Your guardians arranged your marriage at the age of 5, during a planting festival. Your marriage occurred in the spring after you became an adult, at 15.

    City Folk

    City Folk

City life is more exciting. Even though it never feels like it, less than 20% of the population lives in cities. Like villagers, they like stories, but their busy life makes storytelling more of a luxury.

City life runs different then others. Most everything depends on social status and your place in the ever-moving wheels. As city folk, you are more educated than villagers, even if it is only marginally better. Formal education is common for Tradesman and Craftsman. Those below will most likely be literate and have a basic grasp of math through simple division.

Most likely, there are temples to gods with spell casters. You pray as villagers do. You have seen some divine magic. You have a reasonable belief that the gods are genuine. You see the miracles of these gods done by their clerics. But bad things still happen, and the you find yourself asking, "why did the gods let this happen?"

You have seen your lord and a few other nobles and know the basic etiquette needed to get by. Depending on your station or profession, you most likely have dealt with adventurers. Arranged marriages are the norm for city dwellers.

You most likely have seen some magic. Businesses and those of status may have magical lights in and around their estates. Or glowing items they show off. Magic items are scarce, valuable, and dangerous to own. If you own a magic item, you must be powerful enough to keep it safe from others who might want to take it from you. So most chose to stay away from magic items.

Monsters and Undead are very rare. You have never seen them. These creatures are more of an urban legend, folk story, or rumor. You tell these stories to frighten young children into obedience. You share them with friends at your dinner table. You, most likely, have never seen the aftermath of these events. The ideas of these things keep you safe inside the city. You only travel outside the city in protected groups. You most likely have never seen a wild animal unless your work takes you out into the wild.

Background: You are self-reliant and work long and hard. You have a primary-level education. You know some essential plants and animals. You have some social skills and some basic etiquette. Your marriage was most likely arranged during a local festival when you were 5. Most marriages occur in the spring after you become an adult, at age 15.
