Internet stations

I wonder if a station has broken or something. My net hasn't been working. I don't know how I'm supposed to get lunch without it.
— A Reki inhabitant looking at their Modi
These stations are scattered everywhere over the known universe, mostly floating around in space. There is at least one station on every planet as well. They transmit the universal Internet to the world. There are companies that employ maintenance crews to both stay at and go around to these stations and keep them up to date, in place and working.   Many of the mainstream inhabitants of different planets, and even the inhabitants of The Station believe that all of the internet is the same and get annoyed when their internet does not work when they happen to visit other planets. The Internet is universal and mostly only available to governments and companies on different planets. While The Station and the other planets have networks that are only available in those places.   These Stations only have to do with the universal internet for the governments and companies across the universe.

History

These stations have existed for almost as long as the universal internet has existed as an idea. Initially, they only existed around The Station and the planets around that galaxy. Then as the known universe grew, more stations were constructed and deployed. The stations are paid for and run by the Government of Reki and the Unified Trading Commission. They are expensive to build and maintain.

Stations

The internet stations are 28 meters tall and 16 square meters wide. They contain two small rooms with access to all essential electronics and several large computer screens. There are also three other rooms. One is a guest room for visiting mechanics, and the other two rooms are tiny apartments for the two maintenance people who work on the station for a couple of weeks before they have time off and get to go home for a month.
