Human Species in Oryth | World Anvil

Human

Humans are the most common species in all of Oryth. This is likely due to their natural adaptiveness and ability to reproduce and flourish in the most hostile of conditions. Humans are almost always in clusters of people and do best in communities with their strength in numbers. From the small tribal areas of the Arktikos Archipelago to the booming Kingdoms of Hroff and Tok, humans excel in whatever they focus on, working with their environment or against all odds.

The World Abroad

The most fascinating thing about Humans is their ability to proliferate anywhere on Oryth or any of the Planes in between. Their resilience and fortitude are unmatched by any other species and because of this, they can found in even the harshest of environments.

Some of the other races of man, however, grow tired of the human colonizing process as they often move to an area and use up the resources of Oryth until the area is no longer livable then migrate to a new location just to do it all over again.

Civil Disputes

Due to the number of humans, the amount of differing opinions are far greater than many of the other species. Unlike many other species, humans are prone to civil violence and even outright war among their own kind. Their foolhardiness and pride often clash with other humans and cause them to seek the other's destruction.

Pride & Hubris

The pride of the human race is prophecized to one day be their downfall. Humans tend to loathe asking the other races for helping, insisting that they can do it better on their own. They will often over-embellish and misrepresent their own skill not only out of envy but pure hubris. They truly believe that their work is better than even other humans. In an attempt to prove a human wrong, even with ample evidence, one is usually better off talking to a brick-layered wall.

Beyond Belief

Unlike most of the races, there is no "God of the Humans" as such, the human Pantheon is one of vast diversity. Most humans tend to worship Pelor due to his presence in the day sky. It is difficult to refute how Pelor assists with everyday tasks. Other deific figures often revered by humans are Saint Cuthbert, a human that ascended to godhood, Heironeous, the valiant God of Protection, and even Unus Annus and The Ascended, whose divine powers are no longer present on this world.

Jack of Trades

It's astonishing how quickly humans pick up on trades and crafts. Elves can take centuries learning an art form only to be overshadowed by a human who has only taken a decade in the craft. A human's ingenuity is part of what make them one of the largest ruling people on Oryth.

Human Names

Due to the large population of humans on Oryth, there are far too many names, masculine, feminine, and gender-neutral alike, that unlike other races, there aren't much in the way of "common names" or a "naming convention" universal to the world. Instead, Each region has its own common tongue and names that derive thereof. The cultures of the human race are so vast that many consider each region its own subculture of humans. However, titles as surnames such as "Stonebreaker", "Firedancer", or "Sagewind" are commonplace across the globe.
