Yuan-ti Species in Oryth | World Anvil

Yuan-ti

Being all that remains of an ancient ritualistic civilization, the Yuan-ti is a serpentine race of strange and often malicious rites and traditions. Though their population is low on the Material Plane of Oryth, the snake-like people find many ways to prolong their people and lives through sorcerous means.

Humans No More

Through cannibalistic rituals and sorcerous incantations, the people of Yuan-ti were once human, ascending to the form now seen today. Over the many years of these practices, the Yuan-ti have been able to continue their bloodline through the hatching of clutches of eggs through a mixture of mating rituals combining the ways of both serpent and man.

Many Forms

Each Yuan-ti looks different from the last, mixing the features of serpents and humans. Some have elongated forked tongues, some tails, and some even lack the legs of their humanoid counterparts altogether, instead adopting a snake-like lower half with the ability to coil and constrict.

Unseen Puppetmasters

Though their populations are low, the Yuan-ti are rooted in many civilizations in Oryth. Their invisible presence is most embedded into the culture of Ochrid, the Lyra Dynasty is secretly pulled by the Yuan-ti in their endeavors. Though no Yuan-ti physically holds any position of power, some believe that they are behind many of the political and military actions and that the Emperor of the Lyra Dynasty is actually being either mind-controlled or seduced into making some of the questionable decisions as of late.

Superior Minds

The yuan-ti hold themselves up as superior to the other races of Oryth in many ways. To them, you are either a threat, a yuan-ti, or meat. There are no in-betweens in their culture. There is no allying with the yuan-ti, only subsurviant cattle under their scaled grasps. Threats are to be eliminated at all costs, yuan-ti are to be revered and rule as gods, and meat is their only to serve and feed their insatiable appetite for flesh.

The yuan-ti rarely kill those in their path unless they deem it absolutely necessary, instead preferring to enslave those of use and eat those who do not.

Void of Emotions

The people of the Yuan-ti are cold, selfish beings that do not experience emotions as most humans do. Love, happiness, anger, and sadness are all alien concepts to the Yuan-ti people and are considered weaknesses of other races that must be exploited to their benefit. Though many Yuan-ti can fake these emotions by studying their subjects, their serpentine minds can never truly understand the concepts of empathy.
