“I’m not willing to bet on the chance that he has a boat waiting,” you grunt, “so come on! We couldn’t follow him across the water anyway.”
For nearly an hour, you push yourselves. The path is dry and though it’s not wide, it’s worn enough to provide secure footing up and around the boulders, trees and ledges. As the moons rise into the sky, you notice a section of footprints veering off from the path.
You wouldn’t have missed them altogether if it had not been for the fact that a small stream trickles between the rocks and pools nearby.
The tracks are wet!
Someone has stepped through here…and the trail is fresh!
Valda, who loves tracking beasts almost as much as flirting with you, looks up and grins. Her dark eyes glisten in the moonlight.
“We have him!” she whispers.
