The Cult of Gendûet

Summary

In the beginning, the Nelqorana honored the gods and worshipped Vahan. But as their power grew and life became too sweet to lose, the Nelqorana began to search for a mean to extend their lives. This brought them to the devils and the black ways of blood magic. The devils taught them to honor Gendûet, and that the god of freedom and choice would let their bodies live forever. Their rituals often worked, but would always exact a terrible price.

The Cult of Gendûet arrived at its abominable climax with the arrival of Abayin at the Emperor Kjan-Kullarvo's court. Abayin told the Nelqorana to raise poles of dark cedar on high places to honor the Dead God. He taught them the ways of orgiastic magic and dance. Temples of ashen stone were constructed to appease Gendûet, so that he may not destroy them and rather grant them gifts in untold amounts. Abayin brought to them such magics that they have never seen, and they needed to only pay a smidgen, a minuscule offering, to deal in this power.

Last and most heinous of Abayin's advice was to create a beautiful palace of ice and glass. It would stretch upwards towards Heaven, and with its tip it would pierce the veil that lay between gods and Man.
