The
Mediators can be compared to a mashup between local police and social workers while the hunters most aptly can be compared to the FBI. They are a global organization that hunts, judges, and executes
monsters.
History
There have been hunters for as long as there have been monsters to hunt. However, they did not get organized until after 1789. A special monster, turning people into vampires and feasting on innocence, traveled across the world and it was hard for the scattered small hunter groups which had formed around settlements to find him. They organized to catch him under a joint force. They never did manage to catch and execute this specific monster but after the merge, they have been able to more swiftly get rid of monsters. Which they counted as a win.
Profession
The hunters as a profession have more or less also existed for as long as monsters have existed. They were ruffians and/or
Witches who were paid by settlement chiefs to get rid of problems.
A couple of years after they formed their organization the profession became more organized as well. There are now standards. It’s still the settlements who pay for their salary, but instead of leaders of small settlements, it’s now the governments of countries. Or private people or large organizations.
Structure
There are branches of the organization in every country who has a large enough community of people
in the know to infiltrate the government.
These branches answer to the
Court of Hunters which is the ruling part of this organization.
