Abaddon
Next to the city of Hades lies the vast wastelands of Inferno — Abaddon. It is a place where treachery and violence are often the only means to survival. Living here means always expecting the worst and hope that it doesn't get more dangerous than that.
Geography
Most of Abaddon is a wasteland dotted with twisted settlements and ruins, sometimes alien even to the inhabitants. The landscape is marred with crevices spewing lava, poison, or something equally terrible. Huge jagged cliffs protrude from the ground as if they were enormous stone darts that penetrate the surface. Below said surface are myriads of tunnels and caves filled with those who capture other souls to sell.
The river Archeron not only flows through Abaddon, but creates several lakes along the way. This is also where it merges with the river Styx. The two of them act as the major landmaks for all of the region, along with the Cithadels of Infernal Princes and various fortress cities.
Ecosystem
Several different kinds of animals and plants live here, but they are very adapted to the hostile landscape. Those who don't feed on the bodies of others feed by devouring feelings of sympathy or kindness or rip apart souls for their energy.
The wildlife is usually contained in very local areas, such as settlements that tend to them for extra food. Most of the landscape only has a few tufts of grass or bushes here and there, with roving animals seeking out sentient beings when they think it's safe to do so.
Localized Phenomena
Between the fissures in the ground, the dangerous influences of the rivers, and the rough air, Abaddon certainly lives up to the pictures of Hell in many cultures. Being where it is, most of the inhabitants are used to thinking that abusing others is the easiest way not to get abused oneself, which adds to the unpleasantness of what is already a dangerous wasteland.
History
Abaddon was the first area excavated by the demons after the Original Fall, when they were cast out of Heaven. It has been the place for many internal power struggles within the Descending Hierarchy, destroying sections of it many times over. It has also been torn apart as it has been forced to grow.
