Ceten

Ceten is a poor climber from the Glass Volcano area of Oritan. He finds kick-knacks and objects while wandering the mountains, which earn him enough money to care for his mother and wife, but little more. He dreams of adventure and becoming more than his roots, but has little idea how to even begin such a venture.

Early Years

Ceten is the only child of Saphen and Yanna. Both practiced conjuration, but when she gave birth, Yanna lost her ability to wield. Upset, and feeling her lover did not understand her pain, she left Saphen and raised Ceten on her own.
As a child, Ceten preferred to get along with others rather than snip, snap and get into fights. His easy-going, happily overt nature covered deep misery. He had aquaintances but no friends due to his mother's past; parents feared her and what she might do to their children. It led to bullying, which adults ignored because they had little care for the demon and her son. He suffered in silence, knowing that locals would ignore his mental pain as they ignored his physical duress.
He attended the local school for poor children, and managed a decent education. He preferred outdoor activity to books, however, and became interested in climbing.
Climbers were hardy individuals that prowled the mountains in the Glass Volcano's vicinity, looking for treasure. Items of value would appear by a stream or in a glade, and the climbers would sell them at the local shops or travel to the nearby city of Pellindiohal. They found enough that they could buy food, shelter, and a shirt or two, but no more. Ceten spent days away from home, searching for elusive items, oftentimes returning with a small gold statue or a necklace that he could sell for a few coppers. His mother did not approve, especially when he visited the volcano. He found the freedom from the local hate exhilarating.

Ara

Sixteen-year-old Ceten met fifteen-year-old Ara in Pellindiohal while searching for a buyer for one of his finds. Their attraction was instant and intense. She was the first girl his age who did not seem to mind who his mother was, and he fell in love. They experienced the typical rural whirlwind romance, and Ara became pregnant. They married and she moved to his mother's house, initially happy. The locals, flabbergasted someone would willingly give herself to an evil demon-son, treated her harshly. The stress proved too much, and she miscarried. As a result, she and Ceten decided to forgo children, because neither wanted to expose a child to such hate. He still carries desperate guilt over the sad event, though time has soothed the pain.

Current Events

Ceten was caught in a small landslide while climbing. He injured his leg, but no local healer cared to help the demon-son. It became infected, and his health deteriorated. Yanna, desperate, decided to cross the border into Merren and attempt to find help among people who did not have a prejudice against her and her son. Her search led to to Shiobe, who told her that she knew a healer. Yanna promised that her son would guide them to the volcano if Sikode healed him--a promise the Rakan eagerly accepted.

Skills

Ceten is a skilled woodsman and climber. He knows the mountains around the Glass Volcano like the back of his hand. His knowledge of the local caves is unsurpassed.
