Rias Timblewick Character in Tairos | World Anvil

Rias Timblewick

New Sanctuary is a bold dream and bold dreams deserve relentless passion. This little settlement could be the start of something big. Bigger than a trade venture, bigger than keeping the elves fed, bigger than giving our people a new land to settle. This could be the spark that reignitesThe Grand Concordance of Tairos!
— Rias Timblewick in his speech to gnomish leaders for expeditionary support

Rias is the Gnome representative from the city Gnomish city of Homestead. He is one of the oldest gnomes alive today, having been a young boy at the time the old Clockwork Empire of his people fell during the Queen's War. As far as gnome lifespans go Rias is in the tail end of his middle age but that makes him someone that most gnomes look up to and respect. He's one of the few that actually remembers the homeland, the grandeur of his peoples' science and the nightmares that The Autumn Queen unleashed on his people.

Rias is a voting member of the New Sanctuary Expedition and thus far he has always advocated for what does the most good for those under his care and those they encounter. For example; he voted to return the survivors of Peregrine Point to Ackley even though it would cost them a week's worth of supplies and time.

Contacts & Relations

Squeaks - A small clockwork dog. Very common and simple construct that used to be made by the old Gnome Empire. This was given to Rais by his family when he was sent to Ghal Pelor as a toddler during the final days of the gnomish people. It's extremely loyal and protective of Rais now but with clockwork sciences now lost it's also in great need of repair. One little function Rias was able to install after attending the Homestead university was a small language center in Squeak's cogitors. The quiet little grunts, groans and snorts the dog makes are actually a simple language that only Rias knows and it allows his little companion to act as a very primitive spy for him... when needed of course.

Lute Vasleje - One of the oldest remaining known gnomes. Lute was the equivalent of a young child when the gnome empire died and today he is touching on his middle years. He's a well-traveled gnome who has seen the far reaches of Frostmere, the Storm Lands and Baradrad. He uses that wealth of knowledge to advise Rias on matters. He's also able to handle his own in a fight using his short bow.

Homestead Engineering Teams - When the caravan reaches its final destination it will be the sages and artisans of the Homestead Engineers that start work on the new settlement. They're all gnomes loyal to Rias and Homestead. Without them, the caravan would need to rely on cruder methods or petition the Elves of Melanthris for aid.

Doctor Marfan Thornberry - Another gnome from Homestead and an accomplished physician. He has studied the bodies of humans, dwarves, elves and halflings and knows how to heal them. He's also traveled with the Grand Order of the Lion and in his time with them, he studied some of the stranger diseases, parasites and poisons that Tairos has to offer. He's particularly fascinated by the Dyzoat.

Family Ties

Rias' family is very influential in Homestead and are part of the mayor's council there.

Like many of his kind the gods are a mystery to him. They don't have any of the old gnomish traditions to fall back upon and that includes religion.

Has a habit of making a clicking noise when pondering something
