Imperator Rot

Together! We shall propagate my dynasty above as it is below. All shall bloom and molder, over and over, FOREVER!
— Imperator Rot

The Totem Spirits of Tairos are ancient by all accounts and called Tairos long before any of the gods arrived. Their origins are obscure but druidic texts say these spirits could always be found in the deep woods and distant corners of the natural world... all but one. Imperator Rot

As long as druids have kept records they speak of a totem that shunned the nature, and instead favored civilization. Brother Toadstool was said to have been a minor and often ignored totem in the days before the rise of nations. He was only renown for his intoxicating concoctions, hallucinogens, and mind-altering medicine. He was a doctor of sorts, but one who's treatment often carried side effects in the form of drug addled fugues. While he considered himself a rather talented shaman among the spirits, others looked down upon the humble totem as a curiosity and little more. It's also said Brother Toadstool would grin and smile, bearing every slight or dismissive comment with kindness, while burying an ever-growing hatred beneath doses of his own mind warping elixirs.

As tribes of humanoids gathered to create permanent settlements, Brother Toadstool found a place where he was truly welcomed. The refuse and rubbish created by these settlements is where he would take root and bloom. In the forests it was hard to find places where he and his creations could flourish for long but these primitive cities offered both abundance and permanence. The ever-present source of waste and decaying runoff in these places would become a breeding ground for his medical innovations . Soon, he was shunning the forests entirely, and instead submerging himself entirely in the decay of civilization.

When the great schism among totems occurred, Brother Toadstool was among those to join Grandmother Hydra though his contributions to her efforts were of little value. He cared less about Hydra's cause and the totem's role in Tairos, rather he was more interested in furthering his own domain and perfecting his medicinal craft. And, to that end, he was one of the few to actually enter into Endless Night to seek the same wisdom she found there. Brother Toadstool entered, and would never return.

What emerged from Endless Night was something else. A being of mold, toxin, and mind-shattering spores stepped forth in Toadstool's place. He was wreathed in filmy decay and crowned with fungal spines that would wither and bloom chaotically. His cap-like crown growth hung heavy upon three monstrous faces, each one eager to scream unto the world the good tidings - Imperator Rot's dynasty has begun.

The Imperator was no longer concerned with medicines and intoxication, instead he cared only for spreading his dynasty and peering into possible futures with oracle-like spores. While in his own self-induced hazes, he would have visions of different futures where his decay would spread across the whole of Tairos and his putrid physical form would germinate upon every throne, in every nation. And every living thing would become a spore bearer for his eternal dynasty.

Today, Imperator Rot, like most of Totem Spirits in Tairos is in a state of dormancy. The Leylines that once carried mana to the land have dried up and become poisonous. He has retreated to his few remaining places of power like the rest of his kind. For the Imperator, those are sewers, junk heaps, mausoleums, and the deteriorating throne rooms of dead cities. In these places he festers, seeping in spore-born dreams of his grand future, of his eternal dynasty. And, when enough power pools together his necrotic visions manifest into mold encrusted undead hoards or virulent clouds of psychic chaos.
