Malroque

Area

Malroque state has four borders: north is Cotes de Marins , south is Fortdun , east is Landes Dasques , and west the northern edge of Le Cotenson .
It has for centuries now had close links with Fordun. At one point, it can be said to have been Fortdun's annex.
It was the second state to join the Republique when it was established by the state of Fortdun two centuries ago. It is also because of Fordun's protection that Malroque has been free from the invading armies of the surrounding states.
Because of its former precarious position within North Francalia, Malroque society has developed along very strong military lines. The Malroques are famed for their martial skills and make great warriors.
Many generals of the Republique have come from this Francalian state, and the state still supplies the Republique armies with many of its senior officers and soldiers.

Habitat

- Taiga Forest

Like all the most northern states of Francalia, Malroque owns a portion of The Taiga Forest  thriving along the River Rieunan . Wolves, bears, and other top predators still roam its dark expanse.
Malroque warriors are well known to like the hunt and will spend weeks in winter 'going to the wilds' to track down big game and bring back trophies, meat, and furs. Only a few human settlements can be found there.
The main ones are at the edge of the forest and are built to cater for the rich hunters in the winter.

- The Dones

Malroque shares the hills of The Dones  with the state of Fordun. It is their interaction over the sovereignty of the hillsides that led the two states to become first enemies, then allies, and later close cousins.
The Dones have had a prosperous mixed economy for generations. Iron and other metals are found freely in the region and have helped to create the wealth of the Dones population. Malroques are skilled metallurgists, maybe as good as the Fordun's metalworkers.
Production of food is based on rearing sheep and cows on the green hills. The sheltered valleys can also grow barley, and their Eaufeu (fire water spirit) is one of the best in the country.
