Landes Dasques

Area

Les Landes is one of the wilder states of Francalia. It sits to the north of the continent with Marjolais  on its eastern side and Malroque  and Fortdun on its western border.
As per the other northern states, the impassable River Rieunan  marks its northern boundary. It is a remote and harsh area, sparsely populated.
Its people are very resilient and proud of their heritage.

Habitat

- Taiga Forest

 The Taiga Forest  of Francalia covers most of the country to the north. This piece of land is flatter than in the south but still difficult to access. The forests dips and downs into deep gorges and fast-flowing rivers.
The people of the forest, as they are called in Dasques, have built their keeps on promontories overlooking some of the wider gorges. The ancient lords of Dasques fought over the little fertile lands that existed in the area.
The influence of the Republique has turned most of the uncomfortable keeps into near ruins. The generals of the Republique who oversee the running of the region have built themselves newer and more modern mansions in some of the sheltered valleys.

- The Dones Hills

In the south of the country is the start of the hilly range known as The Dones . The Dones make for a slightly more hospitable landscape.
The gently rolling hills are still mostly wooded. Oaks, beeches, and other Deciduous Forests  make an appearance among the pines, and the valleys are somewhat more sheltered than the icy gorges of the north.
A thriving husbandry has developed among the hills which have been slowly but surely cleared to make way for the flocks of sheep.
The area has come out of its slumber lately with the discovery of rich gold veins in the hills - this has created a gold rush and the creation of a few Gold Towns - Villedors in the area.
Dasques' main problem is that it does not have easy access to The Ocean  or the Lac Bleu.
Its goods - wool, wood, cured meats etc - need to be carried through to the Mortalac 's harbors to reach the Lac Bleu or take a longer road to the Ocean through Malroque or Fordun.
Lately, the new prosperity brought by the installation of the Republique and the state's proximity to Fortdun and its Capital city of Adun , have created new markets for Dasques. It seems the region - the southern part of it at least - might be entering finally into more prosperous times and the modern age
