Marjolais

Area:

The state of Marjolais lies to the north between the state of Haute-Besance  in the east and Landes Dasques  in the west.   Marjolais does not have any terrain in The Blancmonts Range . Its northern border is River Rieunan  in the north, but very importantly it also has a length of the lakeshore to the south. In fact, most of the north side of the lake belongs to the state of Marjolais.

- Forest Taiga in the North

A big part of Marjolais is covered by the immense northern pine The Taiga Forest  of Francalia. The forest is a lifeline for the state: its economy relies heavily on fishing, logging and trapping.   These natural resources, once processed are brought in caravans to the Lac Bleu . Once on merchant boats, these goods can be brought to the southern part of the country and the ocean shore.

- Grass plains

Between the taiga forest and the lakeshore, Marjolais boasts of immense, lush grassy plains. These plains are only interrupted by the odd hill formations and are the ideal place to rear horses and cows. The plains can get very cold in the winter, but benefit from the ocean influence on its western sides. It will also benefits from the rain clouds produced by the Blancmonts to the east.   The Marjolais horses are one of the most beautiful race of horses in the whole of Francalia and are often the favourites of the Republique's generals. The Marjolais men and women are skilled horseriders as they will be riding horses from an early age to help corral the herds in the plane.   Nearer the shore lakes. away from the marshes, the climate is mild enough to grow some hardy cereals, and the patate. Patates are a great source of food for the people of Francalia. It is not a native plant to these lands, but came with the Humans when they arrived in these parts a long time ago.

- Marshlands

Near the shore of the Lac Bleu, marshes greet the unwary visitors. This wet and cold land is the most inhospitable part of Marjolais. Caravans that travel from the north of the country to the important lake harbours, will be very careful not to stray out of the marked routes.

- Lake Shore

As in Besance, the ports of the lakeshore are an important part of the states' economy. Because of the hills to the west and the east of the country, it is more difficult to move goods across the land, especially in winter. The lake rarely freezes and is a far quicker and more efficient way to move goods around the country. The lake is also a good source of fishing.   The algae and kelps from the lake is a good source of vitamins. It is consumed in great quantities by the population. It is one of the vegetal delicacies of Francalia. It can be dried and powdered and consumed as a spice.
