Mortalac

Area

Mortalac is one of the smallest states of Francalia. It owes its prosperity and endurance to its very peculiar geographic situation.
Mortalac's lands reside firmly by the northern shore of Lac Bleu , squeezed in between Marjolais to the east and Fortdun  to the west.
In the north, it shares a border not only with these two states but also with Landes Dasques . In the town of Fortrouge, you can step in four states in a matter of a few steps.
Most of the settlements in Mortalac are on a plateau created by ancient volcanoes. It is because of its natural defenses that Mortalac has been able to remain a separate state for so many centuries. It also boasts of a few great natural harbors on the Lac Bleu

Habitats

- Low Level Plateau

To access the towns and villages of Mortalac, one has to ride up a steep incline. There are only two or three main carriageways that horses and wagons are able to drive on to reach the cold and windy plateau.
Settlements on the plateau are usually situated in dips in the land which offer a bit more protection from the elements. Trees and small woods of mixed forests are planted as a windbreak around farms and hamlets to break the strength of the sweeping winds.

- Lake Shore

The lakeshore is where most of the human population of Mortalac is concentrated. The two major harbors on the coastline are situated in sheltered bays and are two of the busiest ports on the Lac Bleu.
The imposing white plateau cliffs form a dramatic background to the shoreline. The cliffs also provide a natural barrier between the harbors and the rest of Francalac. There are only two points of access to the Mortalac harbors: from the shore road and a deep gorge path from the plateau.
Because of their sheltered settlements, the people from the lakeshore have more choice in the food they grow, however they have little space to do so. The economy is mainly based on trade, fishing, and sailing.
The merchants of Mortalac are well known throughout Francalia for their banks, and business sense.
