V-Units
V-Units are the dominant currency of most of the country, replacing the American Currency in 1995 and gradually replacing more and more of the world's currencies afterward. Created by the Deepcore Foundation as part of an idea by them to create a global, centralized currency that can be used worldwide; V-Units, shortened to VUs, were a strange oddity from the start that caused plenty of issues.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
There are three different ways one can use V-Units in transactions, invented at various points throughout the years. These are:
History
Creation
In the 1990s, the Deepcore Foundation began experimenting with the idea of a centralized currency that would allow those who could access it to use it everywhere they wanted. Internally, the idea was that the V-Unit system would allow banks and government agencies to view what purchases were made with V-Units, allowing for easier subjugation and observation of civilians. They would test this system out between 1990 and 1995, implementing it in sites belonging to them, such as Moonblight.
Economic and Legal Troubles
When the V-Unit system was finally deployed across the country on October 7th, 1995, there were some immediate issues that arose. Prices for items sold by some businesses would begin to rise, and other businesses would outright refuse to accept V-Units. For the former, it's suggested that because one V-Unit was equal to five US Dollars, people would end up buying items in bulk due to wages not properly accounting for the new currency yet, as whether through incompetence or malice, Deepcore Foundation told everyone that a V-Unit was effectively equal to that of the US Dollar.
As for businesses refusing to accept V-Units, however, this can be boiled down to either a distaste towards the Deepcore Foundation, or because they were unable to meet the demands of the civilian populace. As a result of all this, the economy throughout 1995 and 2001 began to suffer somewhat. It was only around the time of the War On Terror that it began to recover, when laws were put into place that mandated the payment for V-Units people would receive, as well as put in restrictions that halted the rising prices. Coincidentally, the Deepcore Foundation would begin putting out millions of jobs that were supposedly made to aid the war effort.
Modern Day
Nowadays, thanks to heavy work by the Deepcore Foundation ranging from propaganda claiming that the old ways of currency were outdated and insecure; to government bribes being taken, the V-Unit has been propagated throughout a majority of the world. Despite well-known knowledge that the V-Unit system is insecure and has allowed people to spy on how much money other people have; and claims that the Deepcore Foundation has changed a commodity's value at random times to force overinflation, nothing has really stopped it's spread, even after The Withering.
