It Beneath

It Beneath is a creature that has been seen throughout the world in dark places, preying on the unsuspecting and laughing in the dark. A ghastly being, It Beneath resembles a decaying corpse. The conditions for It Beneath's manifestation are not well known; only that it appears when a human is in the darkest shadows, when the air is filled with an abundance of Mana and when the cold, cold darkness is breathing, watching, waiting.

Identifying Characteristics

The only known features of It Beneath are that it has pure, white eyes; allowng it to presumably see in the dark. All to be able to see your tears. Details obtained from various sources say that It Beneath resembles a human corpse; decayed with flesh rotted all over. It's said that no one can identify the corpse or who it belong to. The corpse doesn't belong to them now.

Special abilities

It Beneath can manifest within dark areas filled with Mana; generally in places that have a kind've energy to it. Comparable to the feeling you get when you're near a serial killer, It Beneath makes its presense known with a ghastly, cold chill. When you turn on the light and look, you will only see it's shadow initially. By that point, it is too late. When it finds you, it will chase after you relentlessly, not stopping even in the event of injury. When it catches you, it will drag you into the shadows with it.

Those taken by It Beneath are never seen again.

History

It Beneath began to appear in the world an unspecified time after The Withering occured. Although some cannot pinpoint exactly when or where, it started when a news story broke out in Moonblight about an onset of mysterious abductions occuring. One survivor-- of whom disappeared shortly after being interviewed, had said that they had seen the entity after an expedition into an abandoned mining tunnel belonging to the Deepcore Foundation; a tunnel that was sealed off due to a mining incident that resulted in fifty dead. They had gone down a fair distance with a few friends before getting stuck; going down a previously unmapped section of the tunnels. While they were down there, trying to find a way out, they heard a voice call out to them. According to the survivor, the voice spoke: You appear to be having a problem.

When they turned to the source of the voice, they saw this man sitting down in the corner. It looked thin, and they could tell that the man had died possibly a long time ago. Of course, it could just still be alive. Despite the state the man was it, they saw it began to stand up. With everyone panicking from the sudden appearance of the man, it didn't take long for one of the survivor's friends to be taken into the dark. The survivor described that the screams their friend made quickly died off as soon as he was dragged into the shadows.

One by one, the survivor's friends were picked off as they all continued to try and escape. By the time they managed to reach the exit of the caves, though, only the survivor was left. Before the interview the survivor had with the news station in Moonblight had ended, he claimed that he still sees the creature in the shadows.

I see it in the corner of this room. I saw it when I took a shower that night. I saw it when I was on my way down to this news station. I even see it beneath me. I call the thing 'It Beneath', because anytime I look at my own shadow, I swear, I see it beneath me. The worst thing is, though? It's smiling and laughing at me.

The survivor disappeared a few days after the interview was done. Despite a police manhunt, no remains have been found of the survivor. Some speculate that he's with It Beneath now. Somewhere worse than hell.

Since then, It Beneath has gained recongition as a tale of warning for those who wander in places they shouldn't go. The story goes that It Beneath appears in the dark, when the air is filled with an abundance of Mana and the air tastes of a special type of decay. The decay you find when the world is filled with evil and hate. It, like many of its kind, thrives and feeds on it; and those places filled with such decay and hateful energy, such as the mineshafts the Deepcore Foundation have dug in, are ripe for It Beneath to form in. It smelled this hate when the world ended, when The Withering occured. It broke free from it's prison, and it wants more.

It will not stop as long as it hates. That's what it does. It hates.
