Prelude 3: Welcome to Caeris, Officers Report
General Summary
2nd of Erlspri, 1568.
As was recorded (mainly) faithfully by Zes Polaris.
After finding the severed head of former Leftenant Bernarius Kaiser boxed and delivered to our lodgings at The Forgetful Swine, Gyan made haste back to the barracks to report the grisly find to marshal, Pacificatores Jonas. A note was found with the head read “two steps ahead of you now” doubtless from the slippery criminal Sevi
On his return Gyan observed two bodies being moved from the barracks to the hospital. The marshal seemed a little annoyed about the loss of one of his most promising recruits, but moved on swiftly to other business. The city of Caeris has a raft of problems - Refugee Orcs in the North, Gangs in the South and the mob (or mobs?) in the centre, but the marshal would like us to look into distribution of spiked Fey Dust hitting the streets. One Belvig Stonecrester - an embezzling dwarf accountant was implicated and may have information that could give us some leads.
Having locked up the rest of the party for, I don't know - allowing buildings to explode into their faces? Dealing with enquires with malicious dedication? Who knows. Maybe it was the javelin to the face of an upstanding resident of the slum who for some reason was running towards us during combat. Either way they were cooling their heels in the dungeon and Jonas ordered our release post haste to deal with the Fey Dust. We were supplied with 3 sets of sending stones to aid our investigations. One was left with marshall Jonas.
On exiting the barracks we met a Human by the name of Bulwark Alga'r'dsisawi who claimed to be Romina’s brother. We tactfully informed him of Romina’s demise and escorted him to the Hospital to claim the body.
On inspection of the bodies we discovered:
- That the assailant we incapacitated during the altercation at the exploding house (by helpful placement of a bolt in the neck,) was now dead.
- He had been alive when he was carried out by the doctors, but dead on a gurney when Gyan met them coming out of the barracks.
- Romina was now missing her eyes, the hospital staff indicated this was standard procedure when a criminal is captured to make “resurrection harder.”
- The rings now came off easily and without crumbling. Condoriano now holds these rings (that’s evidence son, not loot.)
Further consideration:
- We must interview the doctor who gave aid at the barracks to the man with the bolt in the neck.
- We should recon Belvig’s dwellings at Paragon Avenue (Stonecrester above the door), gain entry if possible and obtain as much information as we can as to his involvement and use it as leverage if possible.
