Lazor (Lei-zor)

A lazor is a device that annihilates matter utilizing an arcane rectifier leading to a radiant focus. The term "lazor" originated as an acronym for "Luminary Annihilation via Zeroth Order Rectifier". It is considered as the zenith of gnomish and dwarven engineering.

Fundamentals

Lazors operation is based on two principles. The first is Ordered Rectification, a process which, given an input h(t), yields the output
with n being the rectification order; Zeroth Order Rectification is a composite process of rectification that outputs the best linear approximation of the input, such that every local extremum is "flattened". This can be seen in the graphs below, with the red graph indicating the input and the blue being the rectified output.
The second is annihilation, specifically, Luminary Annihilation[1]. In essence, luminary annihilation is a type of interaction called annihilation, which occurs when two actual rojos[2] with opposites axles[3] collide; this interaction completely destroys both of the rojos and emits either intense light or sound; if it emits only light, it is considered as a luminary annihilation.
At high speeds (over 120,000 m/s), a rojo experiencing a sudden change in its acceleration will invert its axle. Therefore, periodically injecting a stream of rojos at high speeds controlled by a zeroth order rectifier will cause the characteristic flattening of the extremum; this means that each change in acceleration will be sudden, causa periodic inversion of axles. When timed correctly and by injecting the correct material, it is possible to selectively annihilate certain materials while leaving others unharmed; until recent developments this was only theorized.     [1],[2],[3] For further reading, see Rotational Junctions.
