Scope

The motivation behind building Niya-Yur

Niya-Yur is my AD&D 1e gaming world. It started as a simple city and grew out. Eventually, I built up a narrative that went from modern-day Earth to Niya-Yur. This is a world for high adventures and my books.

The goal of the project

I want to have a dynamic world that can be used by many people to have fun RPGing and for me to write more books in.

Niya-Yur's Unique Selling point

This world exists in a possible future. It's most secret core is based on what and how magic works. I have advanced training in physics and spent some time with real speculative physicists who helped refine my theories on which magic and this world works. Some day I may even explain it all.

Theme

Genre

This world is a partial high-fantasy. There are many of the standard fantasy races and archetypes, but because of my house rules and control over my games, it remains as a possible super-science-fiction future of our own world.

Reader Experience

The world needs to feel possible. Although it is hard for characters to die in D&D 5e, there is just a touch more grit. Still, it is hopeful, good will win in the end, but only if the characters persist.

Reader Tone

The general tone is realistic, bright, and heroic. Heroes are heroes, but we all have shades of gray in us.

Recurring Themes

1. The gods walk among us, but they are not perfect.   2. There are fantastic beings and elements, but above all Daggers persist.   3. The world moves on even when the players are not looking. If they skip something or ignore a plight, then bad things happen.

Character Agency

I have notes from every single group of players in my world. If they changed something in the past those effects can still be found or perhaps the echoes of their actions. Time stops for no-one and the world is full of people.

Drama

The Nhia-Samri and Hisuru Amajoo are now a recognized nation that is still establishing itself. There are new trade routes, new information, and the political layout of the world is changing after almost 5,000 years of stability.
The race of Orcs has been hunted to extinction, but, from time to time re-appears without warning. When they do the Nhia-Samri usually hunt and destroy them burning the bodies. At times this means whole areas come under the attack of the orcs killing all the peoples that live there and Hisuru Amajoo finds out sending in warriors who scour the lands of all living things. A few governments are a little suspicious of this.
The great flying ship Emerald Heart now sails the skies. It was built by the man who brought the Daggers back into a prominent force when they almost died out. More than a few people would like to capture or destroy it and all it represents.
There are some strange forces moving in the lands. It is well known how the oldest cities are blessed by the gods with great healing powers for everyone. But, lately, new villages are being built in the ruins of the great war and these places are rumored to exhibit the powerful old magics.
There are strange people moving about the kingdoms but especially the Kingdom of Aelargo. The rumors are they are giving aid to many people. Except the aid is in the form of knowledge and skills.
Players need to reach out and find a place in the world. Money is not plentiful but mysteries abound.
