Campnia Slough

Campnia Slough is a vast marshland and swamp south of Sendel on the western Aelargo border with Nassur. The Campnia Slough is an inhospitable area with many hazards for unwary travelers. The precise nature of the area varies from tall grass cypress marshes to open water mangrove swamps. As this area is located in the hot rainforest areas of Aelargo it is home to many types of plants and animals most of which are dangerous to most humanoids.   The area's primary predators are giant lizards, giant rats, and unusually large snakes. But, beyond those are hundreds of species of fish, mammals, and fae. Many species of birds including storks, ibis, and herons inhabit the shallow grasses and areas.   Beyond the river's influence, there are also many species of wild cats such as jaguars, lions, and tigers.   The marshes also provide a number of terrestrial hazards such as natural gas fields, geysers, and quicksand traps.   The area is said to be inhabited by a number of lizardman tribes who are extremely xenophobic.   The few adventuring parties who have gone into these areas have returned with dramatic wounds or not returned at all. The area is considered to be very dangerous.

Geography

The western side of the marshlands rises to a series of low hills with hidden small mountains. The Jalmoita River runs through this area from north to south and is the primary water source for the marshalands.

Ecosystem

Thousands of unknown species of insects, lizards, fish, and other interesting fauna are present.

Localized Phenomena

There is a large central structure in the middle of the marshes which is said to be a dryad queen's tree. But, this is just a rumor.

History

The marshlands started significantly smaller. But, after the creation of the Circumveni Desert, the heat and water spread expanding the marshes to the current hundreds of square miles.
