Maneating Mandrake

In the Campnia Slough one of the more unusual forms of plants is the mobile hunting plant known as the Maneating Mandrake.   Ordinary mandrakes are part of the nightshade family of flowers with unusually shaped roots that look like humanoids. Legends of the mandrake say that if the root is pulled out it will shriek.   Once one has gone more than a few miles into the Campnia Slough the plants and insects begin to grow in size. This increase continues and at five miles from the edges of the marshland the plants dwarf most humanoids.   The Maneating Mandrake is one of the giant plants to be found. These huge flowers rise from their marshy lands and hunt during the day and early evening. They have the ability to move almost silently and seem to have 360-degree vision. They will stalk any explorers within a half-mile of their location.   They attack with their long multi-limbed stalks that wrap around victims binding them. Once a victim is captured the plant will attempt to drag the captured person at least 300 hundred feet from any other explorers. Once there they will find a place to root in and pull the victim into the ground with them.   Once the Maneating Mandrake has completely re-rooted it is difficult to locate and there is little sign of the plant's victim to be found.   These plants have three to six appendages and are capable of attacking with two in quick succession. They will grab as many explorers or animals as they can before looking for a rooting location.   When in bloom they have large white or purple flowers and the petals if dried, powdered, and then made into a solution provide some healing of many diseases. Additionally, the primary root of these plants can be dried and its sap extracted and purified into an oil that if ingested makes most sentients very susceptible to suggestions and cooperative.
