Kidema Ethnicity in Lyra | World Anvil

Kidema

The Kidema are an isolationist, four-armed group of Eledhrim found in settlements deep in the Nyrian Jungles, usually protecting ancient sites. They tend to be unfriendly to all outsiders, even other Eledhrim, although they will offer food, healing and supplies in trade.

History

The Kidema ethnicity originally split off from other groups of Eledhrim  because of their persistent beliefs in the Prophesy of the Ancient’s return {Kidema legend}. Their dogmatic refusal to accept that the Ancients are gone, and that the Eledhrim must move beyond them in order to survive, caused a deep schism between them and other ethnicities.

Location

Most Kidema settlements are beside, or even within, ancient temples deep in the Nyrian Jungles. (This is not to say that they are present at all ancient temples). They continue their ways of life - farming, cleaning and taking care of themselves - as their masters, the Ancients, left them to do. They also spend considerable amounts of time protecting their small settlements from the dangerous creatures which roam the jungles.

Diplomacy and differences from other Eledhrim

Because of their severe isolation and dislike of the other Eledhrim, the Kidema Have retained their original four-armed morphology created by the Ancients, making them visually different from other Eledhrim. In fact, they refer to outsiders - Eledhrim, Anthros and any others- as 2-armers. This is considered an insult.

Exports

Following in the footsteps of the Ancients, the Kidema have invested considerable time training, breeding and developing the native species of the Nyrian Jungles, as their gods once did. They are excellent animal husbanders and plant developers, and have developed a variety of hardy and nutritious crops, potent and unusual medicines and even handy working and herd animals, from the wilds of the jungle. For example, they were the first to domesticate Savraxi, which are often found in their villages, as well as Eledhrim villages across Nyria.
These valuable species are much coveted by other Eledhrim nations and by the colonists, and are often sought through either trade, diplomacy or more aggressive means.
