Hinaan | Lost Waves

Hinaan

Hinaan used to be a wealthy nation along the western coast of the Sa'ar peninsula. It made most of its money through fishing and, to some extent, trade. The only major threat it experienced was the growing political power of the burgeoning Sh'areen Caliphate. As a result, they were quick to join Sher'eyòm when they attacked the Caliphate.

History

Hinaan was formed from a coalition of city-states along the coast. It later conquered a few regions inland under the leadership of a couple of extra ruthless kings. As of 700 SR it was a nation very much at peace. They held strong opinions on how the inland was becoming more and more ruled by a singular deity and limited their trade with the Caliphate as a result. The Second Burning War makes their first invlvement in geopolitical affairs in a century and a half.

Disbandment

At the end of the Second Burning War, Hinaan surrendered unconditionally to the Caliphate and was made into a province. They retained special status as a province rather than principality until 1110.

Demography and Population

Hinaan was a mostly human nation, but with large elven and gnomish minorities. It was a simple people in many ways, not very prone to the extravagant displays of surrounding cultures. The vast majority of the population were farmers or fishermen with only a few very wealthy merchants and nobles. The rich did have plenty of fighters on their side, but they weren't always all that well equipped.

Territories

Most of what was Hinaan is now the Zaraan Principality, with some of the eastern parts having fallen to the Kingdom of Rashi (since having become a Principality of the Caliphate on its own).
