Hiekosam

Hiekosam

A country in western parts of the Sa'ar desert. It was conquered by the Caliphate during the Second Burning War and became the Sa'mee province.

History

Hiekosam was the name of an ambitious warlord in the area who defeated several competing small nations and unified them. His children continued this tradition until the plains between them and the coast all belonged to their kingdom. There were many attempts by various factions to break free from this kingdom, but none succeeded. Weary of how others might be out to subjugate them, the nation of Hiekosam joined others against the Caliphate in the Second Burning War, hoping to keep themselves free.

Disbandment

The attempt to remain a sovereign state and not be consumed by the Caliphate failed utterly. The only concession they were given was insurance that they would be a special province and retain a small amount of autonomy, Unlike their allies, House Aikhim retained control over the area that was once their nation.

Demography and Population

Humans were the most common in the area, even if they weren't a majority on their own. There were plenty of orcs and half-orc, some halflings, and many of the hardier other races. There are many nomadic tribes still and used to be many more. Horses and other mounts were a way of life. And a way of warfare. As such, hunting was most popular than farming for most of the populace. Artisans developed techniques that allowed them to work while travelling.

Territories

The area that was Hiekosam was previously mostly settled by a people calling themselves the Sa'himesam. The land in their, now nearly extinct, language was Sa'mee. This name was used by many in the region even during the Hiekosam rule. When the nation fell to the Caliphate, it became a Province with some special privileges but took on this old name in order to eradicate loyalty to the old regime.
