Liklandic Stilt Houses
Sturdy Stilts and Wooden Walls
Don't bother talking to the Helatzeniks. You might accidentally offend them as they are as delicate as the stilts of their crumbling shacks.
Liklanders build their houses on sturdy wooden stilts. The buildings are raised from the ground to avoid flooding. During the wet months, the water of the lakes covers the land, turning the homeland of the Liklanders into a shallow sea. Without their stilt buildings, their people would live underwater.
Typical Layout
Most Liklandic houses have a terrace in front of the main door. This platform is valuable during floods, and their boats are tied up to them. A typical dwelling can house around five people, all of who will sleep in the same room. Other than the sleeping quarters, the houses also have two storage rooms and a dining room. The houses are lit by the daylight that comes through the open shutters in the dining room.Noble's Estates
Nobles and wealthier merchants like to show off their wealth by constructing their homes out of planks instead. As their houses are bigger and therefore heavier, they rely on stone stilts instead of wooden ones. The wealthiest men and women of Likland import glass from abroad and use it for their windows.
