Historical Significance

Corrupt Jiy aristocrats, concerned about Sir Armarandos interrupting their tech smuggling, plotted to remove him and the city guards loyal to him. They did not care if this destroyed the city guard (it did; 75% of members were removed, most of them from western Jiy).   Having seen the tea leaves, Armarandos and his father, Lord Adrastos, with the blessing of the legitimate heir to the Jilvayna throne, Lord Krios, purchased buildings in western Jiy districts and conscripted the fired guard to man them. They called them Community Centers and promised to continue guard duties without the backing of the throne.

They might not have garnered such quick support from communities if the Knight-Superiors had not nixed the guard all at once. But during the confusing upheaval, Armarandos, a known figure, was a reliable alternative to the unknown, newly knighted Seeza. He was stable, noble and well-defined.   It helped, that Krios backed the centers. It added legitimacy to the endeavor. Notably, chasers, rebels, magisters, and the Meint religion's Veritiate Deathknell Jarosa, also voiced support, soothing some of the trepidation.   Paper for announcement by Shanda Nelson

Under the auspices of LORD KRIOS OF JILVA, LORD ADRASTOS OF RIVENSWALK and LORD ARMARANDOS OF RIVENSWALK, this day of End Year 2, Menthis 2, 651, in keeping with their dedication to the city of Jiy and to its people, we announce the creation of the COMMUNITY CENTERS.   Until such time as the Jiy City Guard are able to resume their duties, the COMMUNITY CENTERS will stand in their stead. They will continue to serve the public like the guard stations before them, and other than a brief organizational period, there will be no lapse in service. The CENTERS will open End Year 2, Velorthis 3, to accept stake applications and limited agreements for patrols, with more services coming before the end of the year.   Each Jiy district west of the Wrain will have at least one CENTER. These CENTERS will provide the common services the guard once did. These services include:
  • accepting and distributing stakes
  • accepting and distributing chaser pay
  • performing patrol duties for businesses
  • arresting criminals by order of Magisters, to be held in their jails
  • investigating serious criminal activity, in conjunction with the Magisters

LORD ARMARANDOS will conduct nightly COMMUNITY MEETINGS concerning the new CENTERS at the NIGHTMARKET and the UPMARKET out Blossom way from End Year 2, Delthis 11 to Dregthis 45.
