Glazed Worshippers Organization in Jerna's Diary | World Anvil

Glazed Worshippers

The Glazed Worshippers are a group of Moroll that live on the Kazaharo Cliffs and worship one of the worst natural phenomena on the planet, glaze storms.
With no set structure, there worshippers live a simple life of farming crops in the sub-tropical forests of the island.

Glazed Coating

Glazed Worshippers "worship" this particular storm by coating themselves in the burning laurelite rain. When the glaze storms occur, all worshippers leave their homes and stand outside, enduring the burning sensation as the laurelite infuses with their weak, flaky skin. I have in fact tried this ritual, but just the once. I had never felt such pain in my entire life, and I almost lost both legs to a particularly hungry scissor-claw. I honestly don't think my skin will recover, as it was 13 years ago and the skin still remains fragile, but on the bright side there are silver streaks where the laurelite infused and now I have one more cool story to tell.

Location

The Glazed Worshippers live in the Fairy Forest on the Kazaharo Cliffs. With a tiny village nestled in between all of the teardrop tree, the Glazed Village is located right on the edge of the coastline, in the north of the Western Bay.

I'm really not sure why these people are so fascinated with glaze storms. Sure, the crystals and gemstones manufactured after a storm hits are cool, and of course I have a few back at home, but they hurt so bad and I never want to put myself through that pain again. I mean I'm not one to judge other people for their interests, but come on. They are burning themselves alive and causing their skin significant damage just because they think it looks cool. It does attract tourism to the village though, as foreigners want to see their cool shiny skin, but nothing could make me do this for a living.
"Why do you do this to yourself? Burn your skin so it looks shiny?"
It's a bit more than that, but mostly that. We believe that morolls are more valuable with this skin, and that we will be rewarded in the afterlife."
"I see, thank you very much for answering. That is the only question I have, thank you."

Kazaharo Cliffs
The Glaze Worshippers are actually recruiting more people to join the village; they believe it is their God-given right to help others be more rewarded in the afterlife, and the way to do that is encourage them to glaze-coat themselves and live in the village. They tried to rope me in, but I had to turn it down because I had already tried it once and it hurt so bad.

This is a "fun" tradition XD I love the idea of this burning rain and people just finding the idea of mutilating themselves in exchange of pretty pattern super cool XD   Do people go outside naked or try to cover some part of their skin to make particular shapes? Are people with bigger/prettier patterns more honoured?

I'm so glad you enjoyed the concept! I didn't think about it at the time, but I imagine people cover parts of their skin and make shapes and patterns, and the sophistication of patterns would probably indicate their ranking in society. Thank you for those questions, they give me lots to think about!
