Teardrop Tree

If you know about the fairy forest on the Kazaharo Cliffs then you are familiar with teardrop trees. They don't even look like trees, more like blue bubbles on pink stalks. But honestly they are really cool, and I want to get a few for my island but I doubt they'd work with my existing plants.

Anatomy

Teardrop

When I first discovered the fairy forest, I could not figure out for the life of me what the giant bubble-leaf-teardrop thingies were made of. After a careful examination and a small sample of one, I did not come to a conclusion. So I found a botanist in Khaltos who told me it was a natural translucent jelly. Each tree grows between one and five teardrops, and inside are tiny shiny specks that are released as the teardrops "sweat". It is disgusting, but kinda cool to watch it happen.

Trunks

If the giant blue teardrops weren't weird enough, the trunks are a bright pink. The segmented trunks determine the age of the tree by the rings on the outside of the tree. These trunks are sold for high prices on markets and stalls, as the shocking colours are very rare; even I've struggled to find natural tree colours that rival teardrop trees, and I've travelled everywhere. I have a few coasters on my dining room table made of this pink wood, and they are stunning.

Uses

Every part of these trees has some kind of use. While their existence isn't exactly threatened, there are very few teardrop trees since they only grow in one forest on one island on the entire planet. The Glazed Village, the only place to chop down these trees, are very careful on how many trees they chop down at any time, and make sure to replant them and more.

The teardrops are harvested and can be eaten. The Glazed Worshippers hollow out these teardrops, fill them with sweet foods, and then collectively rip it apart and consume every last piece. This is a very rare occasion, one I was able ot participate in when I visited their village. Not my favourite custom of theirs, but certainly not as bad as their skin burning.

Without the teardrops the trees cannot survive, so whenever they are harvested the trunks are collected too. Usually they are turned into some kind of furniture, such as the coasters I have back at home, but most of the time they will form chairs and stools, or kitchen counters.
