Clawing

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I love clawings! They're the most adorable dragons ever, they're so friendly and calm and when you sleep next to them you feel all cozy and warm.

Anatomy

Clawings are fairly ordinary as far as dragons go. They have a small head atop a long neck, one pair of wings, two pairs of legs and a long tail. They come in a variety of colours, most commonly yellows, greens and browns, but many others have been recorded - including a singular rainbow clawing that has only been spotted once in all of history.

Wings

Clawings are named after their wings, which possess three large claws. These dragon's wings are segmented, and can flatten out or swell up depending on if they are flying or attacking others/defending themselves.

They are usually the most colourful part of these dragons, alongside their tails.

Tail

Their tails are intriguing, as they too can swell up. They have a small bone right at the end of their tails which can harden and shoot out when their tail swells up.

It takes a few weeks to replenish however, but the bone is incredibly sharp and literally rips through the tip of their tails when shot.

Habitat

Clawings live in a range of environments, but usually stick to temperate climates. They are commonly found in forests and grasslands, where they use their colours to blend into the tall grasses and trees. If you go into the hilly forests just north of Neihlar on the Kazaharo Cliffs, I guarantee you'll spot a few. They'll probably spot you first.

Relationships & Reproduction

During mating season, female clawings will squawk for males in a desperate attempt to get their attention. Day and night, these dragons will scream at the top of their lungs until a male comes along and mates with her. If this doesn't work, she will actively seek out a male and force him to mate with her.

Most people don't know how horrible female clawings are during mating season - that is until they get one as a pet. On rare occasions, clawings go after domestic animals such as chinins in an attempt to mate if no males are around.

If a female clawing successfully mates with a male, she will immediately start constructing an elegant nest. These nests are approximately three metres in diameter, two metres deep in the ground, and are covered in a thick layer of sticks, leaves, moss, dirt, forming a hatch. The hatch is incredibly heavy and requires a dragon to lift, keeping out most animals including any predator that might want to eat the eggs.

The eggs themselves are a bright orange colour, with no discernable markings, and are purely spherical.

Feeding Habits

Clawings are one of the few omnivorous dragons, feasting on a wide range of foods. Their blend of canines and molars means they eat a lot of meat and plants. Clawings typically eat small mammals and reptiles, occasionally dragons, as well as fallen fruits and bushes.

Pet clawings are fed a similar diet, but it is encouraged to get locally sourced, cruelty-free meats. In modern times it is encouraged to also get fruits from local farmers as the industry is slowly becoming automated, and many farmers are losing their jobs.

Domestication

Clawings are a widely domesticated species as they have a large natural range, but they are never found commonly domesticated in any area. These animals are treated as garden pets in most parts of the world thanks to their small size and docile natures.

These dragons enjoy cuddles and I really recommend meeting one if you can. In large cities you may find clawing rehab centres or even clawing cafes, where you can experience cuddling with tons of clawings at once. My favourite is the one in Tavertral close by to where I used to live.
