The Laws of JauVon
The laws of reality in JauVon differ from Earth in subtle but profound ways—most notably through the influence of belief and willpower. In this world, what people believe can become more real, especially when that belief is shared, deeply held, or fueled by intense emotion. This isn’t metaphorical—it’s part of the physics of the world.
This natural law means reality in JauVon is slightly permeable—a place where stories, symbols, and conviction can be weaponized or woven into the world itself. It's part of what makes "the Source," the living, organic internet native to Jaumun's megacity, possible. And it's why venturing too deep into the wilds—where Criolidhium saturates the land—can bend a person inside out unless their sense of self is unshakeable.
Cosmology
The world of JauVon is one shaped by a turbulent and fractured history, stretching back to the lost past when the people of Jaumun and Vondren escaped a dying world, only to find themselves stranded in a new solar system. The arrival of these people in the Kriocesocr system was marked by an initial period of peace, where they received gifts from neighboring planets, Nas and Juso-Qiga. However, the cataclysmic event that followed—the destruction of Nas and the spread of an infection on Juso-Qiga—severed these ties, and the settlers were left isolated, cut off from their origins.
What followed was a long, bloody Dark War, fought between the Vie people of Jaumun and Vondren. The war, which had its roots in resource conflict, escalated until the two planets became locked in a cold standoff, memories of peace long forgotten, and knowledge of their origins erased. Technology stagnated, and medicine was outright banned. Yet, this prolonged stalemate was eventually interrupted by the arrival of an even greater threat—the Bugs, a hostile alien species with the intention of enslaving the Vie as livestock. The ensuing Bug War brought the two warring planets together, forcing them to form an alliance to combat this existential threat.
Victory over the Bugs was hard-won, but at a tremendous cost. The destruction of the Bug homeworld, Juso-Qiga, left deep scars on the remaining populations, particularly the Qiga'tck'chi, who were exiled or forced into marginalized communities. This war marked the beginning of the modern era for Jaumun and Vondren, and the establishment of the JauVen Alliance. However, the alliance remains fragile, with ongoing tensions, particularly from factions like the Vonrden Imperialists, who resist interplanetary immigration and integration.
Principal Geography & Features
JauVon's geography is vast, untamed, and heavily influenced by both natural forces and the scars of past terraforming. The two planets are primarily oceanic, with significant landmasses formed through ancient terraforming attempts.
Vondren features three major continents, each with its own stark, unnatural environment, shaped by the remnants of its creation. The first continent is a sprawling jungle intertwined with expansive swamps, rich in flora and fauna, but shrouded in mystery and danger. The second continent is a harsh desert, where only the most resilient lifeforms survive, and is defined by shifting dunes and extreme temperatures. The third is dominated by towering, icy mountain ranges, where frozen winds whip through narrow passes and only the most hardened adventurers dare to tread.
Jaumun, the larger of the two planets, is a contrast of climates and ecosystems. The main landmass is a mix of jungle and savanna, separated by an imposing cliff, with dense forests teeming with life and vast, grassy plains that stretch for miles. To the north, there is a smaller, frigid landmass, mostly covered in ice and frozen tundra—an inhospitable expanse where survival is a constant struggle. Jaumun is also home to a tropical island chain that enjoys year-round warm weather, offering a stark contrast to the frozen northern lands.
Above these two worlds orbit the space stations Vida and Zavi, both important to the story of JauVon. Vida was the first place of settlement for the Vie people, a once-pure farming colony turned into a permanent hub for its growing population. Its sprawling farmlands and utilitarian housing contrast sharply with the more chaotic and vibrant settlements on the planets themselves. Zavi, once a massive amusement park, now serves as a thriving, albeit unusual, colony where those seeking something out of the ordinary come together to live in a mishmash of nostalgic oddities and makeshift settlements.
Initial Active Setting
The initial scope of JauVon focuses on two planets—Jaumun and Vondren—locked in a tense, post-conflict alliance after surviving an alien invasion. While both worlds are vast and largely unexplored, the active setting centers on the massive urban sprawl of a single megacity on Jaumun, the scattered smaller cities of Vondren, and the interlinked spacestations orbiting them.
Most of civilization clings to these few urban bastions, surrounded by hostile, mysterious wilderness that remains dangerous and largely uncharted. The tone is intimate and grounded despite the scale: it’s less about charting every corner of a solar system and more about surviving—and shaping life—in the margins between civilization and the unknown.
The setting also includes "the Source", a strange, organic internet unique to the Jaumun megacity, adding a mysterious and deeply localized twist to the otherwise broad technological reach of the system.
While other planets in the solar system exist and may appear in side stories or lore, the core focus is this intertwined pair of worlds and their fragile, messy efforts to coexist.
