Trumpet

Language of the Pachyderms

A language that is known for its simplistic script and its use of thunderous trumpet-like sounds and bellows, though the race that created this language often attempts to hide embarrassment when others attempt to speak it at too soft of a volume. Speakers of this language are generally Pachyderms, their large stature and lung capacity naturally gives them a louder voice and their unique physiology allows them to make loud bellows and blasts that could be interpreted as musical. The script for Trumpet is considered very simplistic and easy to replicate for those that wish to learn the written component of a language, there are no deft motions and no extravagant characters.   The earliest appearance of this language is tied to the emergence of Pachyderms as a race, the elephant-like people have taken great care to distinguish their language from that of other large pachyderms to the point that Pachyderm scholars have described the language of wild creatures to be completely unrelated to their speech much like the noises of apes and the language of Common having no relation. The Trumpetlanguage uses a simple, blocky script with dots that can be written quickly and seems to have no special rules for construction or writing. The simplicity makes the written component of the language inviting to learn and seems to favor species that have large builds, big hands, and difficulty handling delicate tools. This stands in heavy contrast to the difficulty of learning the verbal component of the language though many attempts have been made with varying success, the bottom line always remains that most species are unable to recreate the volume and variety of bellows and trumpets that are required to properly speak this language. Many words and phrases take the sound of a long trumpet or a bellow that rises and falls in pitch, much like how a melody from a wind instrument would be able to change notes seamlessly without a break in play. The most successful attempt of a Human learning this language involved the construction of a magical brass instrument that amplified sound considerably and was capable of emulating over a hundred pitches and tones but it was still unable to perfectly emulate the language's more complex phrases.   The advantage of speaking this language would be that you could make a large impression upon Pachyderm society, if the quality of your attempt is high then you would gain immediate acceptance in many areas that are predominantly populated by Pachyderms. The written component serves little purpose rather than correspondence in the language, there are few ancient ruins or shrines that were constructed and decorated with this writing outside of religious structures. There is no particular disadvantage to speaking this language except for the fact that some phrases and words are literally impossible to speak without a certain level of volume so it is not often advised as a method of communication in delicate situations.

I'm guessing that they don't have the equivalent of a whisper in this language? Sounds like volume is quite an important component.
