Strongest of the Eldritch Beings

When nightmares truly enter reality, who do they follow? Are they mindless beings that exist strictly to continue the nightmare in the daylight, heedless of any laws of nature or the supernatural? Do they spread and turn the world black wholly of their own accord or are they under orders, following the divine words of something even greater than themselves? Is the nightmare lessened if when we realize a puppeteer is managing the strings?
It is much easier to believe that evil does not follow any rules, drawing its own lines and conclusions, than to admit there is some logic to what evil and nightmares bring to the world. When so much is happening, it is much simpler to think of such destruction and desolation as a one-off event instead of organized chaos. Within nature there is a pecking order, someone is still always on top of the food chair. Why would that fact differ in the supernatural?
The nightmare of Eldritch beings is a reality that must be recognized, but then so too must the Horrific Lords, the nine Eldritch beings that are recognized above all others. These are beings of incredible power, recognized by their names and followers, cults that worship nightmares in the darkest places of the world. Within their factions is nothing more than corruption and sacrifice, tenets that go against every divine tenet followed throughout the world. Beyond Demons and devils, the nine Horrific Lords are the worst that can enter the world, almost erasing it the last time even one stepped foot on the world.
