I can't get out of this house.
The Carmine door locks are artifacts created in somewhat modern times. Their creator,
Mortel died in 957BO, more than 2000 years ago. The door locks are used in the creator's home village of
Carmine. Since they are artifacts they are magical in nature and makes it "impossible" enter or leave the house.
Around 10 percent of all the buildings in Carmine currently have these locks on their outer doors. Mortel installed the locks in around 40 percent of the houses that existed in the village when he was alive because these were the people that could afford what he wanted as payment. The village grew a lot after his death and especially these last 100 years. Both currently and when Mortel was alive the houses that have locks are in the richer part of the village. He did not share with anyone else how to produce these locks. There are several locksmiths and
artificer who have tried and are still trying to replicate them.
To open a Carmine door lock a person must first have a key that fit to the lock, these keys are normal and can be mass produced by the owner. Which is good if you accidentally misplace your key. Secondly the key holder will have to chant a password when turning the key to open the door. People who are born and raised in their houses can use the password silently in their heads while others who move into their houses will have to say the chants in a normal speaking voice.
MATERIAL
Visually, there is nothing unusual about these locks, the difference is the material used and the runes carved into the material. Most people think that the locks are made out of a weird light pink brass material but the locks are made out of
Copper that has been mixed with ancient
dragon bones. The owners of the houses usually paint their locks to look like normal locks. This has evloved to all house owners painting their locks. Currently the popular color is metallic black.
