Llyra's Oasis

"I wouldn't dare enter that place, my friends. None who enter with ill intent ever leave the same, or at all for that matter. As tempting and beautiful as it may seem, it's best to leave its care to the druids, many of whom are watching us at this very minute I'd wager."
Qu'Sai Manarion
Llyra's Oasis is a beautiful clearing within the forest of Cirion. The light of the sun breaking through the thick canopy of the willow trees mixed with the ethereal glow of the many Gemets dotting the of the pond make for a wondrous, even heavenly sight.   It was that very sight which so enticed Haldarn, after his final conquest. Legend holds that as he was travelling through the woods, he came upon the oasis, and attempted to harvest its many Gemstones. As he did, a trance came upon him, and no matter how urgently his servants called for him, he remained at the edge of the pond, staring into its beauty. When someone finally approached him to take him away, he fell face first into the pond, and sank to the very bottom, never to be seen again.   The Elves of Limraes believe that Llyra herself watches over the Oasis, and that it was her enchantment that brought Haldarn to ruin. Today, the Druids of Cirion watch over the Oasis, keeping it pristine, and gathering there every year to worship Llyra for her protection of the forest.

Geography

The Oasis is a clearing within the thick of Cirion, perfectly circular, and surrounded by ancient willows. Shaded by the vast branches of the trees surrounding it, the pond at the centre of the Oasis is cool to the touch, and perfectly still.

Fauna & Flora

Many of the deer of Cirion are known to drink from the waters of the Oasis, as well as the odd bear or pack of wolves. It is a haven for many of the beasts of the forest, and even natural predators do not hunt their prey here. The song of many birds can always be heard from the large willow branches surrounding the oasis, and coy populate the pond.   Many rare and beautiful flowers can be found here, and some, such as Llyra's Touch, are unique to the Oasis. Aside from flowers, splashes of colour can be seen in the many Gemets which dot the grassed shores of the pond.

Natural Resources

The Oasis is rich in medicinal resources, as many of the rare flowers within the Oasis have powerful medicinal properties. They are always in abundance, as only the Druids of the forest ever use them, and are careful to preserve the supply. Whilst it may seem tempting for hunters to come to the Oasis in search of meat, any who attempt the task soon find themselves either turned away, driven mad, or lying at the bottom of the pond. The Gemets found within the Oasis would also seem a tempting prize for adventurers, but those who attempt to take them often go the same way as the hunters. Only the most trusted followers of Llyra manage to use any of the resources found within her Oasis.
