Brin-Karak

Geography

Brin-Karak is a large mountain range found in the middle of the continent of Faenir, but is more accurately described by the systems of caverns found below it. The caverns have multiple entrances, some of which have been transformed into major transit ways. There are many underground lakes in the caverns, and some cracks in the mountains provide light to the caverns, though most of the light is generated by Gemets. The caverns of Brin-Karak allow travellers to access some of the deepest parts of the Iatar, and include some entrances to the Underworld.   The actual mountain range of Brin-Karak is the largest in the continent, and contains the highest peaks of Faenir. It spans the central part of the continent, and stretches from the northern shores in Ettrenland, down to the southern shores in Randir. It is the site of the sources for many of the largest rivers in Faenir, including the River Teluin, the River Randir, and the River Eredos.

Fauna & Flora

The caverns of Brin-Karak are home to many creatures found nowhere else in Faenir, including various large cave-dwelling bugs, bats, and rodents. Additionally, the caverns house many Gemlings, and Gemets, which thrive in the region. Aside from Gemets, not many other plants can survive under the mountains, save for some moss and lichen species.   Of particular interest in Brin-Karak are the large beasts of burden, the Arkand-zul. Despite their humanoid form, they are seemingly completely non-sentient. They have been domesticated by the Dwarves , and are used as both guardians and bearers of burden. They can only be found here in Brin-Karak, and have been known to go crazy when exposed to the outside world.

Natural Resources

Brin-Karak is rich with many metals and minerals, with silver, gold, iron, and even mithril being found in large quantities throughout the caverns. The Dwarves of Brin-Karak have made their wealth from exporting both raw metals and works of great smithing artistry alike. The Dwarves have also made a fortune from harvesting and exporting Gemstones, either grown, mined, or hunted from the many Gemlings and Gemets throughout the caverns.
