Bril

Bril is an island nation located in the north of the continent of Caia, lying at the mouth of the Bay of Nereus. It is a heavily wooded land, characterised by steep hills and sharp rocks. It is the home of around ten thousand people, known as the Brillish.
Though Bril gained its independence from the country of Serukis about thirty years ago, its government is still in a state of flux. Originally, the island formed a democratic republic, intending to vote in their leaders. This republic lasted about a decade, corrupt from the start, power and money ensuring certain people got elected. The mask came off completely in 5324 EA, when the then-leader cancelled all elections, turning Bril into a dictatorship (that still called itself a democratic republic). What followed was fifteen years of blood and civil war, and a series of eight leaders, each ousted more violently than the last. Currently the country is in the control of Esvor, a militant rebel group who, from outside appearances, seem to be doing their best to bring peace.
