Nasyk Bloodmeet

The Bloodmeet is when young, traditionally-raised Nasyk are introduced to their blood relatives for the first time.

This is their first proper meeting because they are taken from their parents as soon as they are weaned from breastmilk, and are instead raised by chosen guardians together as a group. Once they are old enough they are re-introduced to their family, and apprentice under them for specified roles.

The Bloodmeet is a bit exciting and a bit terrifying. Some clever kids figure out their family ahead of time through the markings on their fur or other hints, but for most of us it's a surprise. Nobody wants to be the kid of so-and-so the town drunk, everyone gets jealous of the kid who is so-and-so the renown guard captain.

For some it's the best day, for others its the worst.

Reason for Separation

Traditional Nasyk are raised as a group without knowing their parents to give them more allegience to the tribe and their siblings--the generation they were raised with. They form strong communal bonds as a result, and learn how to work out and handle the dramas and storylines which will likely follow them all through their lives.

Other Pact nations often point to this method of upbringing as the source of the frequent Nasyk nationalism. Many other Sazashi cultures follow a similar practice, but without witholding the identity of a child's parents from them.

Parents who can are expected to help with the parenting of the group, though may opt out or be removed if they show favoritism or are deemed an unfit parent. In the case of an unfit parent during the Bloodmeet, the teen Nasyk will be introduced to the parent, be told why they were considered an unfit parent, and given the option to have a different, better parent. This, as well, sparks controversy.

You want to know who needs a fucking hug? Nasyk.

That was an interesting concept! I'd like to know exactly what does "given the option to have a different, better parent" entail. What role are parents expected to perform at this stage of a young person's life? How do they choose this "better parent"? Are these "unfit parents" allowed to continue having children?
