Maia (MY-uh)

Greek Nymph / Pleiad

Maia

Maia, eldest of the Pleiades and daughter of Atlas and Pleione, is the goddess of quiet birth and midnight mystery. A mountain-dweller and lover of solitude, she shunned the noise of Olympus—yet bore one of its greatest gods, Hermes, after a secretive union with Zeus. Where other deities chase legacy, Maia preserves peace. She is the hidden hearth, the unseen midwife of transformation.   Though modest in myth, Maia’s role is essential. She embodies the turning of the year’s wheel from cold to bloom, the moment seeds crack open beneath snow. Her nature is that of concealed potential—fertility not flaunted, but protected. Her home in the caves of Arcadia became sacred ground, and her son’s brilliance carries the subtle strength of her influence.
