Deities

Deities in Ealam range from spirits worshiped locally to protector deities of a region or nation, to beings that, according to myth, created the world. Many mythologies conflict, but the power granted by many of these deities is very real. Some scholars posit that it is *belief* that empowers these phenomena rather than any supernatural entity. Indeed, like the secular magic, the ability to which individuals are able to access and utilise this divine power varies. This suggests, according to some philosophers, that there is no difference, then, between divine power and the manipulation of elements.   Whatever the truth is, religion plays an important part in the daily life of many people in Ealam. Some feel the touch of the gods more strongly than others, but it is uncommon for even the most sceptical soul to pass a day without uttering a prayer to one power or another.
