Yiniel

Creative and chaotic, finding inspiration in everything, Yiniel's brush painted the rolling hills of Yinaia and its people. Yiniel embodies mutability, and their two souls are ever dancing in delirious delight. Laughing as they taught their people to open their minds and hearts, they instilled creativity and sharpened emotion.

Description

Yiniel may be depicted as feminine, masculine or androgynous depending on the work. They are described often in texts of indeterminate gender, their body and features shifting but ever beautiful. They are often shown with instruments of creativity such as quills, musical instruments, paint brushes and the like. Yiniel is depicted in an array of colours, sometimes complementary and sometimes clashing. An opal in a resplendent gold and silver setting is shown in many icons of Yiniel. Named Yiniel's heart, this many-hued accessory was left to the ducal house of Yinaia when Yiniel departed Cetoile with Thierrin and their companions.

Faith

Yiniel taught their children creativity, and at the core of creativity is the ability to think for oneself and trust one's judgement. Creativity in action, art, thought and love is central to Yiniel's religion. Their religious sect is named the Opaline Order. Creativity is a blessing upon the world, and it is one they seek to spread. The structure of the Order is fluid, people will often defer to others based on who appears to be most suitable to lead in any given context. When necessity dictates, the Grand Fabricant, head of the Order, will perform their role as leader.

While many other Etoiline sects consider members of the Opaline Order detached from the world, charity is a large component of the Opaline Order's mission. Opalinites travel the world sharpening their creativity and expressing it in any way that strikes their fancy. Yiniel reaches between dimensions and brushes the minds of their faithful. The surreal ingenuity of their art often draws the attention and finances of art collectors across Ealam. These works of art are rarely sold by their creators, however. When an Opalinite creates, they search for an outcast or pariah to give the work of art to. The owner can then decide the work's fate, and any proceeds arising from it. Opalinites are known in Yinaia as clothiers of paupers and builders of amazing (if sometimes unreliable) shelters for those who have none.

Though the Opaline Order turns its collective nose up at the thought of any sort of uniform, all Opalinites wear steel rings set with small opals on the middle fingers of their left and right hands. These rings are created in the Order's Grand Chateau in Menas. Upon entering the Order, an acolyte receives their first ring. The acolyte then spends an indeterminate amount of time studying under and alongside more established members. When the acolyte has chosen an art to specialise in, they are given their second ring and assigned a mentor. When the mentor decides the acolyte is ready to become a member proper, they are given their third ring. The fourth ring and beyond are given to advanced members for various deeds of distinction.

Androgynous, intersex, transgender, genderfluid and non-binary people are celebrated in the Opaline Order. The Order considers such people to be touched by Yiniel. The first Grand Fabricant, taught and chosen by Yiniel theirself, was a genderfluid person. Despite the Order's overall disdain for tradition, its choices for Grand Fabricant have tended toward genderfluidity, considered a mark of depth of creativity and potential by the Order.
