The Eight Families have influenced the Old World openly or behind the scenes, since the beginning of time. After The Lapse, but especially after the Icarus Event, when all social structures came crumbling down, it became clear that pulling the strings from the shadows wouldn’t be enough.
As a result, they used their resources to ensure control of the army and any other security forces in their regions, and they presented themselves as the only solution for humanity to move forward. Although most of them have been rivals through the centuries, they agreed to come together under the
Novus Ordo and split amongst themselves the newly formed Paneuropa.
They created the Eight
Conglomerates, huge corporations controlling every and all business activities in their region. Still, personal ambitions and old grudges create friction between them, as none of them really trusts any of the others. The Family members constitute the
Luminaries, the highest ranking of the Castes. Members related to the Family head up to fourth degree of consanguinity belong to that Family, although the third and fourth degree relatives are assigned assistance and service duties.
No other Castes, not even the Black
Collars are permitted to set foot in the living quarters of the Families.
