Trait Mechanic⚙️

A Thrown weapon is both a Melee Weapon and Ranged Weapon, depending on how it’s used.

 

A weapon that can be used to make a thrown attack has a range in parentheses after it. The range lists two numbers. The first is the weapon’s Close Range Increment, shown in feet, and the second indicates the weapon’s Long Range Increment.

When attacking a target beyond Close Range, or while you are in within melee range of another creature, you have Disadvantage on the attack roll. You can’t attack a target beyond the weapon’s longer range.

 

By default, Ranged Attacks from a Thrown Weapon use either STR / Strength or DEX / Dexterity as the Attack Modifier by default, no matter a player character’s Key Attribute (unless otherwise noted or modified). In this regard, ranged attacks are still ranged, and gain Disadvantage when attempt such in melee, but Thrown Weapons can be used as melee weapons instead, using it within melee range (5ft, unless the weapon has Reach.)
