I’ve loved cosmic horror since I first read Dunwich Horror in high school and the idea of eldritch beings became cemented in my mind. I’m always on the lookout for new stories playing on Lovecraft’s universe of creatures and characters and anything inspired by them, I believe it allows creatives to tap into a darker unknown and really dwell in that mysterious void for a bit.
Mystery Flesh Pit National Park
I’ve been following this project for a while now. I can’t remember where I originally came across MFPNP, but it’s always been in the back of my mind as one of the coolest personal projects any creative has done. The level of worldbuilding displayed through graphics, ads, and ‘official documents’ is super inspiring to me and something I strive to reach one day with Beckettville.
APRA
APRA
I cannot express how much inspiration Garrett Lewis’ Anomalous Parks & Recreation Areas has brought me while creating this site. I struggled to figure out how I wanted to display the world of Beckettville outside of the short stories and general media I create. At one point I was planning to just use the site as a reference point for my own writing, but when I came across APRA it was like a new fire had been lit inside me. The tone and branding are just beautiful and I always find myself wandering over there to browse their attractions when I’m needing a break from my own world. If you haven’t followed APRA, please go send Garrett some love on their incredible work!
SCP
Although I’ve never taken the opportunity to write in the SCP universe, I’ve always admired the people who do. The stories and creatures are so creative and spooky and some have been stuck in my head for years. Some stories are hauntingly beautiful, some are absolutely horrifying, but I’ve enjoyed so many years on the SCP wiki that its influence has certainly leaked into Beckettville, particularly The Neighborhoods.
