The garden that burned The Destruction of Kumlan

The Destruction of Kumlan

Disaster / Destruction

1760TN

The small town of Kumlan which was located within the kingdom of Vitahleese, was taken hostage by a twisted Runemancer and used to ritualistically summon the goddess of mercy. The two fought and decimated the small town leaving no survivors. During the battle it is said that the Runemancer sang A Song of Sleep in the softest of tones, however, the tiresome effects of the lullaby could be felt by nearby settlements up to 16km away.

It is rumored that a Runemancer set up to 225 small runes around the borders of the small town Kumlan using an elder rune.
The townspeople were then forced to only tell the truth, and this is how the effects started, though slowly but surely the true power of the elder rune ran its course. It twisted not only their minds, but the physical form of many of the townspeople turning them into hideous monstrosities. Those who were not physically warped were killed, or worse by the new monsters running rampant. The song "A Song of Sleep" echoed across not only Kumlan, but it also rang out up to 16km from its point of origin.
The townspeople and monstrosities were put to rest and then the goddess of mercy arrived to give who was left a merciful death. The Runemancer leaped out and quick casted the elder rune onto Mercy, showing her true form. It revealed that her god spark was twisted and deformed, and in response the goddess screamed out as if the act of transformation was a painful feat.
They battled together and the goddess even took to her titan form after being pushed into a corner by the Runemancer and her tactical approach. A massive explosion went off on the goddess, wounding her leg and forcing her to flee back to her realm. The bomb was later revealed to be divine in nature, triggered using an Aether gas exposure reaction.
It is debated among modern day historians whether or not this was the Runemancers way of publicly proving the point that the goddess of Mercy was corrupt, considering not a week later the organization Mercy's Lie was founded. The leader of the group stepped forward as Valensandra Whit, who confessed to committing the atrocities in Kumlan, however, due to her power authorities were unable to capture and try her for her crimes. They assume that the goddess was twisted and the Runemancer aimed to expose that, though unfortunately it was at the expense of the small town Kumlan.
After this event there worship of the goddess of mercy took a staggering hit, struggling for the next 80 or so years before the religion itself was lost to time.
