Leprechaun

Brief Overview

Leprechauns are mischievous little creatures that take joy in pranking and testing others for good fun. Often mistaken for a subspecies of Faefolk, the Leprechauns are actually of Babylonian origins.

General Overview

They travel between realms using their hats and cause mischief to anyone they deem worthy of becoming their next target. Rumor has it, if you can survive a year of a Leprechaun's pranks you will be considered its friend and it will invite you into its pocket dimension where it hides its horde.
Due to their rarity and intrigue in things both shiny and tari imbued, leprechauns are often referenced in history as being hunted when spotted. This is mainly because of the common misconception that all leprechauns have a horde of gold, however, it's not always gold they collect...
Despite their size, they were once considered incredibly dangerous by the mortals of Eden due to their innate magical gifts and superhuman luck. Unfortunately, because it is so rare to spot them they are considered to be mythological creatures or Faetales on Eden.

Basic Information

Anatomy

They are mostly skinny and short with four limbs. Two arms and two legs. Their teeth are flat and shaped like a herbivores, and for some reason their cheeks are always flushed a reddish-pink color. Bat-like ears are what their little hats stay set upon, and these can actually hear the energy frequency of positive aura states. The Leprechauns use this ability to locate creatures that may have a sense of humor so they can try and befriend it.

Genetics and Reproduction

Leprechauns have genitals like most races, however, they're mostly sterile. The only way they seem to be able to mate is by offering another Leprechaun a sip of their ale. If the Leprechaun accepts that sip of ale, no matter their gender they will suddenly multiply by tearing themselves in half. Both opposing sides of the Leprechaun will pull in a different direction until they split in two. The result would then be two Leprechauns. The original who accepted the sip, and a new leprechaun who is a combination of the first two Leprechauns magic.

No one is really sure why it is they work this way, but it is theorized that it's because of the mixture of divine luck, inebriation, and mischief magics granted by the gods who created them.

Growth Rate & Stages

They remain looking young until they reach around 2000 years old, and then almost overnight they begin to look like a baked apple.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They need their ale, but they like candy, baked goods, dairy, and sugary things.

Biological Cycle

Leprechauns hate the cold. They're little and not well insulated, so they prefer to avoid cold weather and the entire Autum & Wintur seasons of Eden. This is possible due to Babylon's annual early Summra weather. Babylon's weather conditions consist mostly between warm and sunny, or warm with a light rain and occasional breeze.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

They always have reddish-pink cheeks, and every so often they can be "born" with a small patch of their belt of darkness misplaced. This means a random black spot or stripe of varying sizes can form anywhere on the Leprechaun, including the face. Although this is highly uncommon, its feared by other Leprechauns as a sign of that Leprechaun being more susceptible to Absolums curse.

Average Intelligence

They are more clever than smart, but those of them who dedicate to their studies can achieve a high intelligence.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Leprechauns possess many magical abilities, but the two most well known involve their pint of ale, and their hat. A Leprechauns hat is said to be capable of teleporting them to a magical closed space that was considered a pocket dimension. Each individual pocket dimension is tailored to its Leprechaun, meaning while they're within their horde they are more powerful. The ale, however, was another story. The little creatures were able to approach anyone and ask,
"Hey, try a sip of my ale?"

If the person took sip they would then be subject to the Leprechauns powers. Once the ale had been consumed, anything the Leprechaun said to the victim, they would believe. The victims own mind and the magical effect from the Leprechaun would make what they said into reality, but only from the victims point of view. It did not affect the people around them as well.
This could be used harmfully or with good intent depending on the relationship between the Leprechaun and the person in question.

Civilization and Culture

History

Creation

The Leprechauns were created by a series of unfortunate events that happened to snowball.
One day in the early -4000's of BN, a great party was hosted in Babylon for all gods to attend. At the party's end only three gods remained, and all three of these god were fairly inebriated. The gods present were Diosalem, god of inebriation, Samurah, goddess of luck, And Malefici, goddess of mischief. Throughout the night these particular three gods had been conversing, placing bets, and bonding. Initially, the bets were harmless. For example, they would bet on how many times a virtuous mortal had verbally cursed in their lifetime, or they'd bet on odd questions they wondered, even having to approach Myamya to settle an argument between Diosalem and Malefici about rainbows. The question was,
"If plants need sonlight and water to grow, & rainbows are made from many tiny water droplets and light, does that make rainbows plant food?"
-Malefici
Myamya responded by bursting out laughing for an entire minute before suddenly falling silent and whispering
"Yes." In a flat tone. She then swiftly left the party by rooting her feet into the ground and growing like a plant in reverse.
After Myamya left, the gods decided they wanted to spice up their bets, so Samurah pointed out that not one of the three gods had created their own race. It was decided that their final bet would be based on who could build the best creature made from three objects. These three objects had to be gifted to each of their new races by one of the three gods present.
For the three created objects, Samurah made three lucky coins, Diosalem created three "pint sized" tankards, and Malefici made three trick hats. Each god took one of each object and set to work creating their creatures.
The rules were simple. No world-eaters, no Divine Servants, and nothing above 4-feet tall. When they were done, each judged one another's creation. They were each flawed, but they had their own little quirks that made them interesting, however, the gods couldn't judge without bias, forcing them the leave their little creatures unguarded while the looked for a moral god or goddess to choose the rightful winner.
Unbeknownst to the betting gods, Absolum had been watching the entire time from the shadows. When they left to find a suitable judge he crept from the darkness and added one final component to the three little creatures, a belt of darkness. He used this dark belt to bind all three creatures together into one, and the result was a Leprechaun. Absolum fled back into the shadows and the three gods returned with Fate to judge their creations only to find that no final verdict could now be made.
Despite the lack of a true victor, they all enjoyed the strange little creature, joking and playing with it. After a short time, Diosalem offered it a sip of his tankard and the creature happened to multiply. A tiny female Leprechaun was suddenly standing beside the male. It was then determined by Fate that the safest thing for them would be to remain in Babylon as its natives, and the three gods agreed. All deities present were excited to see the growth of the strange little species.

Luck Lost

Unfortunately it wasn't until nearly 100 years later that Absolums intervention had been discovered. A Leprechaun found out the hard way that if they are struck hard enough the lucky coins inside them would pop out of their mouths. During a Babylonian festival celebrating Feherra, a young Leprechaun was accidently hit in the chest by a firework and his coin shot out of his mouth and over the border rails. In seconds, the fun loving little Leprechaun disfigured horribly and turned into what are now known as either Goblins to mortals, or Leprespawns to the Babylonian people.
Many tests were done to learn why it was that had happened to the Leprechaun and it was eventually discovered that if the coin from within them was lost, the only energy positive enough to repel Absolum's curse was also lost. This meant that without Samurah's lucky coin, all Leprechauns would fall victim to their belt of darkness. When losing their coin, their natural belt of darkness will expand and turn their veins black while their skin fades into a pasty grey color. They become incredibly greedy, uncivilized, and use power to dictate their governance.
When their overall motives were discovered, a trial was held and a law passed in Babylon which stated that Leprechauns who remained in their original forms would remain under the protection of the The Deorum Pantheon, whereas, if they became a Leprespawn they would be stripped of their hat and tankard and banished from Babylon by being tossed over the border rails into the The Abyss below.

A Short Companionship

After many years of avoiding Eden the Leprechauns found out that Dwarves were capable of building a specialized glove which allowed them to reach inside of Leprechauns and remove their coin while leaving residual traces of Samurah's luck still inside them. Once the Leprechaun's learned that the Dwarves loved ale, ale which every Leprechaun had naturally at hand, it allowed for some clever Leprechaun's to make deals with Dwarves. The Leprechaun's would share their ale with the Dwarves and the Dwarves would repay that favor by removing their coins. For most Leprechaun's this worked out well, however, for an unlucky few it was discovered that even if some of Samurah's luck remained inside them Absolums curse could still prevail, turning them into a Goblin.
Despite their love for one another, once the Dwarves were destroyed by the sky volcano the Leprechaun's were forced to rely on what little of the gloves remained from Dwarven design or forever fear the day their coin could be stolen away from them along with their sense of self...

Historical Figures

Irae
A Leprechaun who ascended to godhood by killing a Divine Servant of Geodea who served in the Cosmos wars. He exists today as the god of assassins and actually uses his lucky coin to kill his marks.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

If interspecies relations were to occur it would likely be limited to species of a similar size, like Dwarves or overgrown Fae.
This typically doesn't happen, but it can. They have genitals, they are simply unable to procreate without help. Most Leprechaun are Sterile, but there have been cases of those blessed by Myamya.
