Apocalyptic Residual
The Apocalyptic Residual is a toren clan led by Supreme Scavlord Maximus Mortus. With control over several territories, including the ancestral human homeworld Terra (Old Earth), it is arguably the most powerful toren organization and a significant player in Starweb politics.
Ever since, its primary political goal has been to retain control of Terra while faced with many nations, cultures, and religious groups with ties to it.
History
The Residual started out as one toren clan out of many on Terra, which had once again fallen into ruin after a brief period of renewal. In the Great Extirpation they were able to join with others and expel humans from the planet, claiming it as the new toren homeworld.Ever since, its primary political goal has been to retain control of Terra while faced with many nations, cultures, and religious groups with ties to it.

Author's Notes
Their name is taken from Nick Bostrom's paper on the "vulnerable world hypothesis", the idea that civilizations may reach a stage where existentially-destructive technology becomes widely accessible, rendering catastrophe almost impossible to prevent. In the paper, the "apocalyptic residual" is the portion of people who would be willing to use such technology to destroy the world were they to obtain it. Maximus Mortus' clan, being left over on a planet which suffered apocalyptic devastation, found this a fitting name.
