Scavlord

A rank in many toren societies, toren-Americ for "Scavenger Lord". Any toren can lay claim to this title as it is not assigned by anyone, thus many outside observers distinguish between petty, minor, major, and supreme Scavlords. A high-ranking Scavlord can usually be found heading large fleets or ground operations, directing those under his command to where he thinks the best loot can be found. Some are nomads, moving with their clans aboard ships, while others hold planetside territory.

Prior to the establishment of the Stellar Compact, well-equipped Scavlords occasionally posed headaches to landed governments since they would intrude into star systems without invitation and set up shop. In the peace of the present day, Scavlords have tended to become more like conventional political leaders.
