The Starweb

The network of wormhole stargates which connects Stellar Compact civilization. Though spanning perhaps two thousand lightyears on its widest extents, it only occupies a miniscule fraction of the galaxy's total volume. Still, this is enough to contain millions of stars, hundreds of connected systems (ranging from barely-explored frontiers to economic powerhouses), and a staggering array of intelligent activity.
